‘Assaulting police sergeant, theft, heroin’: Six cases heard by magistrates

Assault and damage
A man was ordered to pay compensation after assaulting a woman and damaging her property.
James Pennington, 43, admitted to Tameside Magistrates Court that he had assaulted the woman in Bolton in January last year.
He also admitted to destroying her mobile phone, worth £800.
Pennington, of Livingstone Walk, Briarfield, was ordered to pay a total of £800 compensation, a fine of £135 and a surcharge of £54.
Theft
A man was fined after stealing from a shop.
Andrew Baines, 44, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had stolen £34 worth of cheese from the Co-op in Bolton.
This was on February 5 this year.
Baines, of Ainsworth Lane, Bolton was fined £50.
Probation
A man was fined after missing probation appointments.
Daniel Thomas Patrick Burke, 38, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had missed appointments at Bolton Probation Office on November 22 and 29 last year.
This was in breach of a community order he had been given at Manchester Magistrates Court on April 22, 2024.
Burke, Of Langthorne Walk, Bolton was fined £200.
Heroin
A man was fined after carrying heroin.
Lee Chadwick, 34, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had heroin in his possession of August 28 last year.
This is classified as a Class A drug.
Chadwick, of Greenland Road, Bolton was fined £120 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £48.
Magistrates also ordered that the heroin be seized and destroyed.
Assaulting police sergeant
A man was fined after assaulting a police sergeant.
Adam Rodzoch, 39, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court to assaulting an emergency worker on April 18 last year.
This was while the sergeant had been trying to carry out his legal functions.
Rodzoch, of Tonge Moor Road, Bolton was fined £120 and ordered to pay £100 compensation with costs of £85.
A man was given a restraining order after using threatening or abusive words or behaviour.
Threatening
Adam Ardis, 37, admitted to Manchester Magistrates Court that he had used threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour intended to cause alarm or distress.
This was in Bolton on June 27 last year.
Ardis, of Paulhan Street, was given a restraining order against his victim and was fined £120.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 with a surcharge of £48.
