Huge fire breaks out at derelict mill with emergency services on scene

The blaze is believed to have broken out at Pioneer Mill on Milltown Street in Radcliffe over the course of Saturday evening and later into the night.

Eyewitnesses have reported seeing the fire and rescue service out in force tackling the blaze, with hoses appearing to have been in use to try and douse the flames.

Emergency services are believed to have been on the scene since at least around 8pm on the evening of Saturday September 27.

They appear to have still been on the scene on Milltown Street in Radcliffe as of 11.20pm that same night, still tackling the blaze at the abandoned derelict mill complex.

Pioneer Mill has frequently been a cause of concern having been at the centre of fires that have broken out at various points over recent years, having been vacant for more than 20 years.

As yet no further details have been made public about how the fire started on Saturday evening.

Members of the public have been encouraged to always call 999 in the event of an emergency as soon as it is safe to do so.
