Industrial units planned for former Ramsbottom sawmill site

Developers want to build the units on Spring Street at the former Sawmills and say they would be used by tradespeople to store tools and materials.
The plans come years after the applicant received planning consent to build five houses on the same land but received “resistance” from neighbouring properties.
It’s led the developer to revise its plans and opt for industrial units rather than homes.
Planning papers submitted to Bury Council this week say the units would be constructed using Bradstone and will be “fit for use by tradespeople to rent”.
Car parking would be available next to each unit, including for disabled access, while toilet facilities would be provided on site.
Papers added: “Having previously received planning permission for five houses to replace the former sawmills, following resistance from residents of several neighbouring properties, the applicant is revising his proposals to develop a scheme for three industrial units.

“[We are proposing] units to be used by tradespeople in which to store their tools and materials, and for small-scale manufacture of components, for example, joinery goods.
“Two units are to be located on the north side of the site, with one unit to the south, positioned to respect the separation distances from the surrounding houses, and to allow sufficient space for small to medium-sized vehicles to manoeuvre.”
The plans will be debated by Bury Council planners at a later date.
However, papers say the applicant still has permission to build the previously-approved housing scheme – which is valid until July 2026.
