The People’s Party has filed requests for vote recounts in 10 constituencies in provinces across the country: Khon Kaen, Chon Buri, Lampang, Surat Thani, Nakhon Ratchasima, Samut Prakan, Tak, Saraburi, Maha Sarakham and Chai Nat.

The party on Tuesday posted a message on its Facebook page declaring that while it accepted the overall election results, including victory and defeat, it could not accept what it alleged were irregularities in the vote counting process.

“Every vote reflects the will of the people, and it is our duty to protect that,” the party statement said.

The party had set up a special task force to receive complaints and pursue legal action regarding irregularities in vote counting nationwide. As of Tuesday, the party had submitted requests for recounts in 10 constituencies.

The constituencies and the provisional winning parties are:

  • Khon Kaen constituency 3 : Klatham
  • Lampang constituency 2: Klatham
  • Surat Thani constituency 1: Bhumjaithai
  • Chon Buri constituency 1: Bhumjaithai
  • Maha Sarakham constituency 1: Bhumjaithai
  • Nakhon Ratchasima constituency 13: Pheu Thai
  • Chai Nat constituency 1: Pheu Thai
  • Samut Prakan constituency’s 6: Bhumjaithai
  • Tak constituency 1: Bhumjaithai
  • Saraburi constituency 1: Bhumjaithai.

The People’s Party also praised residents of Chon Buri constituency 1 and other areas who had actively come forward to protect their votes.

“The People’s Party reaffirms that we will continue to safeguard every single vote cast by the public,” it said.

The party urged voters who have evidence of irregularities, especially photographs of the tally sheets displayed at polling stations, to submit the information through any official party channel so it could verify whether the posted tallies matched the final consolidated results.

The party’s move drew support from many netizens.

Large crowds gathered overnight to demand a recount in Chon Buri constituency 1 following reports of misplaced ballot boxes, power outages during counting and discrepancies in vote totals.

They alleged that ballot boxes were being kept in a badminton court and were being prepared for relocation without seals, as required by regulations.

They claimed that the boxes were stored at the badminton court rather than at the previously specified location, and that they were about to be moved without being sealed.

Disgrunted crowds surrounded the vehicle carrying the ballot boxes and demanded an explanation from election officials, calling for transparency in the vote-counting process.
