Education authorities aim to boost school safety

Thai educational authorities are drafting a new framework to protect students from violence, accidents and rights violations.

The Office of the Basic Education Commission (Obec) is drafting a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cross-sector collaboration in creating safe and creative learning environments in schools across Thailand.

The aim is to establish a coordinated framework to ensure the safety and well-being of students, teachers, and educational personnel, said Phichet Phophakdee, secretary-general of the Basic Education Commission

He made the comment after a recent meeting attended by representatives of a wide range of ministries and agencies, including public health, interior, justice, agriculture and the Royal Thai Police.

The draft MoU sets out a comprehensive approach, encompassing preventive and support systems to protect students from violence, accidents and rights violations.

It is also accompanied by mechanisms to monitor and address drug-related issues in and around schools.

Central to the framework is enhanced collaboration between state agencies and partner networks, as well as efforts to instil positive values and desirable characteristics in line with national education standards Mr Phichet said.
