SET-listed Central Plaza Hotel (Centel) is capitalising on the growing Japanese tourism sector with the launch of Centara Life Namba Hotel Osaka, its second hotel in Osaka.

“The tourism and hotel sectors in Osaka are continuing to expand, with the number of travellers projected to increase by 5-7% annually,” said Andy Noh, cluster general manager of Centara Grand Hotel Osaka and Centara Life Namba Hotel Osaka.

The Japanese government’s strong commitment to promoting tourism at the national level is a key factor supporting the industry’s long-term growth, he said.

The Bank of Japan forecasts economic growth of 0.5% for fiscal 2026.

Mr Noh said despite various global challenges affecting the tourism industry, he remains optimistic about the outlook for Japan’s tourism sector.

The global outlook has affected not only Japan, but every country around the world, he said.

“The tourism industry remains a key driver of Japan’s GDP, and despite global economic uncertainties, the long-term outlook remains positive,” said Mr Noh.

In Japan’s hotel industry, Centel observed strong growth from the Australian market, in addition to continued expansion from key markets such as the US, South Korea and Taiwan.

Moreover, Japan continues to benefit from a growing number of major international events, including global sporting competitions such as the 2026 Asian Games. These factors are driving demand across the country’s tourism industry.

DISTINCTIVE SERVICES

As the tourism sector remains strong, new entrants are driving competition in Osaka’s hotel market. Roughly 13 new hotels are expected to open this year, adding nearly 2,000 rooms to the market, according to Mr Noh.

Hotels offering tailored guest experiences and supported by targeted marketing strategies should continue to stand out in the market, he noted.

The company plans to focus on delivering value and excellent service to guests, while also developing broader market awareness by strengthening Centara’s brand recognition in the Japanese market, building on the momentum generated by the success of Centara Grand Osaka.

According to Mr Noh, one of the brand’s strengths is its warm and attentive Thai hospitality.

In Osaka, the company said it has integrated the Japanese concept of “omotenashi” — wholehearted hospitality — with Thai service standards to create a guest experience that appeals to international travellers.

Centel believes blending the warmth of Thai hospitality with Japan’s service culture is a key factor in creating memorable experiences and effectively meeting guests’ expectations, he said.

The new hotel features 300 rooms designed with a modern concept, blending art inspired by Osaka’s vibrant city with culturally rich room decorations.

The hotel caters to both leisure and business travellers, and is accessible via public transport from Daikokucho Metro Station and Nankai Namba Station.

Located in Namba, Osaka, the hotel is close to the Osaka Kizu Wholesale Market, and is within walking distance of the Namba district, with easy access to the famous Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi areas.

The hotel is located about eight minutes away on foot from Centara Grand Hotel Osaka.

Centara Grand Osaka has consistently ranked among the top two hotels on TripAdvisor since its opening, reflecting strong guest satisfaction.

The new hotel also received positive reviews and favourable customer feedback, according to the company.

“The goal is to make Centara a top-tier hotel brand for consumers,” Mr Noh said.
