‘E-bike, possession of cosh, no insurance’: Four cases heard by magistrates

Driving without insurance and seatbelt
A man was ordered to pay more than £1,000 after being convicted of driving without insurance and without wearing a seatbelt.
Shahid Hussain, 54, was found guilty at Tameside Magistrates Court after pleading not guilty to driving without insurance on Bridgewater Avenue, Bolton on August 4, 2024.
He was also found guilty of driving without a seatbelt on that same day after pleading not guilty.
Hussain, of Bank Grove, Little Hulton, was fined a total of £1,044 and given seven points on his licence.
Driving e-bike without licence
A man was fined after driving an e-bike without insurance or a proper licence.
Dean Whalley, 34, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates Court that he had driven a Boardman MHT E-Bike on Red Lane, Breightmet on July 29 last year.
That same day he had also driven an e-bike without a proper licence at the same location.
Whalley, of Crown Lane, Horwich, was fined £415 and given six points on his driving licence.
He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £166.
Possession of cosh
A man was fined for possession of a cosh in public and for using abusive, threatening or insulting words.
Mark Eckersley, 45, changed his plea to guilty at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court to possession of an offensive weapon on Central Avenue, Farnworth on June 22, 2023.
He also changed his plea to guilty to using threatening, abusive or insulting words intending to cause or provoke fear of unlawful violence towards a woman that same day.
Eckersley, of Central Avenue, Farnworth, was given a community order up to November 10 next year which includes up to 10 days of appointments with a responsible officer.
He was also fined £288 and ordered to pay costs of £200 with a surcharge of £114.
Racially aggravated
A man was fined and ordered to pay compensation after directing racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at a police officer.
Gareth Handley, 46, indicated a guilty plea at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court to using racially aggravated threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour at a PC.
This was in Horwich on April 14 this year.
Handley, of Sycamore Walk, Horwich was ordered to pay compensation of £25 with a fine of £767, costs of £85 and a surcharge of £307.
