Freddie Flintoff opens up about ‘nerve-wracking’ moment ahead of new Bullseye series

The four-part series will see professional darts players join Freddie in the studio as well as English darts master of ceremonies Richard Ashdown, 47, as the scorer.
Freddie, known for his successful England cricket career, said one part of the show is “nerve-wracking”.
Freddie Flintoff reveals ‘nerve-wracking’ element of new Bullseye show
He said: “You know what, I get to play darts on the show, we do a darts challenge, and it’s so nerve-wracking. I think the contestants find it nerve-wracking, too.
“They’ve all played darts to a good standard, but they get under the lights and it’s completely different.”
Flintoff added: “The questions are actually quite easy, aren’t they? Let’s be honest, it’s not Mastermind – we want people to answer them, so I’ll be quite confident doing that, apart from the spelling ones. But I think I’d like to throw the darts.
“And who would I pair with? I’d probably just bring my mate. I’ve played darts with Jack Whitehall before, when we used to do A League Of Their Own, and Steve Harmison. I think there’d be a queue of people who would want to come on. It’d be hard to choose a partner — I think even my kids would want to come on!”
Freddie Flintoff remembers watching Bullseye on a Sunday with his family as a child in the 1980s.
He was fascinated by how Bullseye was filmed back then, and how former presenter Jim Bowen managed to walk from one place to the next whilst making mistakes, and just going with it — all in one take.
“There’s something really nice about that. At the end of the day, it’s fun — it’s a bendy bully and a game of darts,” says Flintoff.
“We stop when I mess up on the auto-cue.”
How will Bullseye work?
The upcoming episodes of Bullseye will be in the same classic format of three teams of contestants, where an amateur darts player — also known as the “thrower” — and a quizzing expert — also known as the “knower” — compete to win cash and prizes.
The original Bullseye, which ran between 1981 and 1995, always featured the animated brown bull mascot named Bully, who wore a red and white striped shirt and blue trousers.
Which professional darts players will feature in the new Bullseye series?
Luke Littler will return and Michael Van Gerwin will also take part.
Viewers will also see Fallon Sherrock and Luke Humphries in the series.
Freddie, who is from Preston, Lancashire, added: “Stephen Bunting was a highlight for me, though — he’s from St Helen’s, which is only down the road from where I’m from. He’s just a nice fella who loves playing darts.
“He stands so far to one side as he throws because his dad used to have a really narrow corridor in the shed or something, and that’s where he had to stand, and he stuck with it.
