Microsoft admits system bug causing Windows 11 instability

Microsoft has officially admitted that nearly all core features of Windows 11 are currently unstable due to a bug within the Extensible Application Markup Language (XAML) system.

As a critical component of the operating system’s user interface, the glitch has disrupted the Start Menu, Taskbar, Explorer, Settings page and other system elements.

Issues began surfacing following a patch update in July 2025, identified by the code KB5062553, although the root cause was only officially acknowledged this November.

According to the US tech giant, the problem stems from multiple updates released in July, where an error during the installation process reportedly caused systems reliant on XAML to malfunction.

The situation is widespread, affecting users on both Windows 11 versions 24H2 and 25H2. Reports indicate that freezing issues with the Start Menu and Taskbar are the most common symptoms.

Currently, Microsoft has not announced a definitive patch to rectify the error. Instead, the company has proposed a temporary workaround to improve system stability. However, the suggested method involves complex technical steps that may prove difficult for general users to execute.

The solution is arguably better suited for power users or administrators, requiring the use of PowerShell. Users must run the programme as an administrator and execute the following commands:

Add-AppxPackage -Register -Path ‘C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.CBS_cw5n1h2txyewy\appxmanifest.xml’ -DisableDevelopmentMode

Add-AppxPackage -Register -Path ‘C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.UI.Xaml.CBS_8wekyb3d8bbwe\appxmanifest.xml’ -DisableDevelopmentMode

Add-AppxPackage -Register -Path ‘C:\Windows\SystemApps\MicrosoftWindows.Client.Core_cw5n1h2txyewy\appxmanifest.xml’ -DisableDevelopmentMode

While these measures may alleviate the problems to a certain degree, they do not constitute a complete repair. Users must continue to wait for a comprehensive update from Microsoft to fully resolve the instability.
