Taxi driver arrested after crash with ‘Welcome to Bolton’ road sign

The crash is believed to have happened after darkness fell last night, Friday, when a silvered coloured car that police say was being used as a taxi collided with a road sign.

This appears to have happened on the motorway on the way into Bolton.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesperson said: “You’ve had a great night out, book a taxi, expect a safe ride home, when a pesky fixed road sign jumps out on the taxi causing a crash!

“GMP Traffic arrived on the scene, arrested the taxi driver, who blew over twice the limit at roadside!”

An image supplied by police at the scene shows a damaged car at the side of the motorway beneath a sign that reads “Welcome to Bolton”.

No serious injuries have been reported and as yet no further details have been released by police about the suspected collision.

Officers have urged anyone with any concerns about crime or anti-social behaviour on the roads or otherwise to get in touch by calling 101 or 999 in the event of an emergency.

Alternatively, witnesses can also call independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111.
