WRAL Weather Alert Day- Rain and storms with damaging winds likely Sunday

Sunday is a WRAL Weather Alert Day as showers and thunderstorms bring the potential for damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.

After fairly widespread rain and storms Sunday morning, there will be plenty of dry time throughout the day. There may be lingering showers in the Triangle throughout Sunday morning before some peeks of sunshine during the second half of the day.

“There will definitely be some time to get outdoors and walk your dog today,” WRAL meteorologist Aimee Wilmoth said.

However, another line of storms will move through Sunday afternoon and evening, until around 6 p.m., before we start to dry out overnight.

The area is under a Level 1 out of 5 risk. There is a chance for damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and small hail, although there have not yet been reports of severe weather in our area.

Summer-like pattern brings another chance for storms Monday

The chance for scattered showers or storms continues Monday afternoon, when temperatures climb back into the mid-80s. However, with a 30% chance of precipitation, much of Monday will be dry.

After Monday, the weather will quiet down for the middle part of the week. We’ll get a break from the heat, with highs in the low 80s and plenty of dry time on Tuesday and Wednesday.

There is a slight chance for strorms on Thursday and Friday leading into the weekend, but it won’t be a washout.

Grass and tree pollens combine to keep us sneezing

The positive note is that rain keeps tree and grass pollens in check. While it is uncomfortable for some, high pollen counts are to be expected in the spring.

Thankfully, tree pollen counts were relatively low on Friday.
