‘Drugs, shoplifting, speeding’: Five cases heard by magistrates

Illegal drugs
A man was fined after carrying three different kinds of illegal drugs.
Scott Varley, 31, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court that he had MDMA in his possession in Bolton on November 24 2023.
That same day he also had cocaine and cannabis in his possession.
Varley, of Oswald Road, Manchester, was ordered to pay a fine of £120 and costs of £85.
Magistrates also ordered that the drugs be seized and destroyed.
Shoplifting
A woman was given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay compensation after stealing from a supermarket.
Laura Brown, 33, admitted to Wigan and Leigh Magistrates’ Court that she had stolen £100 worth of fresh meat and cheese from Aldi on Mason Road, Horwich.
This was on September 4 last year.
Brown, of Haydock Street, was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £100 compensation.
Licence and insurance
A man was ordered to pay more than £1,000 after driving without a proper licence and insurance.
Warren Paul Humphries, 34, was proved by single justice procedure at Manchester Magistrates’ Court to have driven on Avenue Street, Bolton without a licence on October 26 last year.
That same day he had also driven without insurance.
Humphries, of Norris Street, Little Lever, was ordered to pay a total of £1,352 and given eight penalty points.
Speeding
A man was ordered to pay up after speeding on a major road.
Xhuliano Kalemi, 31, was proved by single justice procedure at Manchester Magistrates’ Court to have driven at 78mph on the A666 St Peter’s Way on June 23 last year despite a 50mph limit.
He had driven southbound between Bradford Street and Raikes Lane in Bolton.
Kalemi, of Rishton Lane, was ordered to pay a total of £1044.
Driving licence
A man was fined after driving without a proper licence on a major Bolton road.
Yugendran Rajendran, 33, was proved by single justice procedure of having driven on Moor Lane without a proper licence on May 7 last year.
He had been driving a Honda Accord.
Rajendran, of Foxholes Road, Rochdale, was ordered to pay £324.
