Police name man charged with murder after death of beloved man

A 44-year-old man was rushed to hospital after he was reportedly attacked on Irvine Avenue, Boothstown, on Sunday, December 15.
The victim, who has been identified on social media as Thomas Gomm, later died from his injuries and a murder investigation was subsequently launched.
Following the arrest of a 22-year-old man, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed that Jack Naylor, of Irvine Avenue, Boothstown, has been charged with murder.
He has also been charged with two counts of assault on an emergency worker, a racially aggravated public order offence, and domestic assault.
He will be remanded overnight in police custody to attend Manchester Magistrates Court tomorrow morning (Friday, November 20).
After it was reported that a murder investigation had been launched into the incident, relatives and friends have been posting emotional tributes online to Thomas, who was a talented mechanic with a passion for motorbikes.
Thomas’ father is Brian Gomm, a respected journalist on the Leigh Journal for decades and a former rugby league player.
Many have described Thomas, from Tyldesley, as a “legend” and a “true gentleman”.
