Protests erupt in India over rape and murder, suspect killed by police

The mother of a rape suspect who was shot dead by police in India’s West Bengal state on Wednesday (July 8) refused to claim his body. The suspect was arrested after the body of an 11-year-old girl was found in a pond on Sunday (July 5),  according to local media reports. The case sparked outrage and triggered protests in West Bengal, while the suspect’s death also fueled anger among opposition parties. – REUTERS
