Teachers learning about ‘new’ computers at Bolton Institute of Technology
Computer course at Bolton Institute of Technology, 1973 (Picture: Newsquest)A new course – computer studies – was to be added to the CSE syllabus in the September with an A level course having already been offered.
Bolton Institute of Technology’s Department of Mathematics was holding a week-long practical course in computers for teachers who would be guiding pupils through the new exams.
Most of the 25 teachers taking part admitted they knew little or nothing about computers at the start of the week.
Frank Billington, a course instructor, predicted that more and more schoolchildren between the ages of 14 and 18 would be doing practical work with computers in the future. How right he was.
Just a shame they couldn’t get some bigger stools for the teachers to sit on!
